food and wine

With continuing awareness of food and drink issues, most people are going to be taking more care of their bodies - after all we only get back out what we put in. To this end, here's a collection of great resources on the web that can help you with your pursuit of better food and drink

First, before changing your diet, or trying to lose weight, you should consult your doctor. That said, if you decide to go it alone, don't just look at the headline rate of "BMI" or Body Mass Index. This doesn't work for some people - indeed most professional sports people may well be considered overweight or obese by its measurement!

The official government guidelines in the UK for calorie consumption are:
Men - 2,500 calories per day
Women - 2,000 calories per day

These figures are based though on a person with a high level of physical activity which isn't always possible for your standard office worker. To check more accurately what your calorific requirements are, have a read about your "BMR" or Basal Metabolic Rate. Your BMR is a guide to how many calories your body need to 'stand still' each day.

And to make it easier, here's an Excel calculator for you to enter your own figures into.

To count the calories, here's a handy web tool to track your diet on. You might like some food to go with your new diet, too. Here's some thoroughly recommended food stores, restaurants and wine suppliers.

Britain's newest (and in my opinion best food market)
London's top restaurant
A fun, themed restautant in the heart of London's Theatreland
Stylish and with great views, gardens on the 6th floor of a building!
Easy home wine delivery, great customer service
